When can scar revision help?
Not all scars are unavoidable, and not all problematic scars need to be accepted. Scar revision surgery can significantly improve the appearance of raised, contracted, widened, or misaligned scars - particularly on the face and neck, where scars are most visible and can have the greatest impact on confidence.
Scar revision is not about making a scar disappear - no scar can be fully erased. It is about making a scar look and feel as natural as possible, restoring function where it has been compromised, and helping patients feel better about their appearance.

Ms. Chegini assesses the scar - its type, maturity, and the patient's priorities - and discusses the range of revision options available.

Pre-operative photography
Clinical photographs are taken to document the pre-treatment appearance and assist with surgical planning.

Surgical planning and consent
The chosen technique is explained clearly, including expected improvement, limitations, recovery, and any combination treatments.

Procedure under local anaesthetic
Scar revision is performed under local anaesthetic as a day case. Most procedures take 30 to 90 minutes depending on complexity.

Aftercare and suture removal
Written aftercare instructions are provided. Facial sutures are removed at five to seven days. Silicone therapy may be recommended.

Review appointments
Review appointments will be arranged if clinically indicated to monitor progress as the scar matures. Further treatment is considered if needed.

Results vary depending on the scar type, location, and the patient's skin characteristics. Realistic improvement of 50–80% in appearance and function is achievable in most cases. We will give you an honest, specific assessment at consultation.
When is the right time for scar revision?
For most scars, revision should be deferred until the scar has fully matured - typically at least 12 months after injury or surgery. Keloids and contracted scars may have specific timing considerations. Ms. Chegini will advise on the optimal timing for your scar.
Are there non-surgical options?
Yes. Corticosteroid injections, silicone sheeting, and pressure therapy can all improve scars without surgery. These may be used as standalone treatments or in combination with surgical revision for best results.
Will revision make the scar worse?
In experienced hands, scar revision rarely makes things worse. However, keloid patients carry a higher risk of further keloid formation, which is carefully discussed at consultation before any decision is made to proceed.
Is there a risk of the scar coming back?
Hypertrophic scars and especially keloids can recur after revision. We address this risk with adjuvant treatment - such as post-operative steroid injections or pressure therapy - to minimise the chance of recurrence.
