Thorough, unhurried check-ups for new and existing patients. We take time to listen, explain everything clearly, and make sure every visit feels positive.

About the appointment

What happens at your check-up?

A dental check-up at New Forest Family Dental is never a conveyor belt. We schedule appointments with enough time to carry out a thorough examination, listen to any concerns you have, and explain our findings clearly - without either of us feeling rushed.

Every check-up includes an assessment of your teeth, gums, bite, and the soft tissues of your mouth, including an oral cancer screening. If X-rays are needed, we use modern digital technology that's quick, accurate, and low in radiation.

If we find anything that needs attention, we'll walk you through your options honestly and help you decide on the best course of action - with no pressure and no jargon.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

How often should I have a dental check-up?

Most adults benefit from a check-up every six months. However, the recommended interval depends on your individual oral health. We'll advise you on the right frequency at your appointment.

What happens at my very first appointment?

We'll start with a short medical history form, then your dentist will carry out a full examination. There's no pressure to undergo any treatment during your first visit - it's simply a chance for us to understand your oral health and for you to get to know us.

I haven't been to the dentist for years. Is that a problem?

Not at all. We see patients of all backgrounds and levels of dental anxiety. We're here to help, not judge. We'll start from where you are and work out the best path forward together.

I'm very nervous. What do you do to help?

Both our dentists are highly experienced in supporting nervous patients. We'll go at your pace, explain everything before we do it, and make sure you feel in control at every step. We're always happy to stop and take a break.

Do you see children?

Yes - we're a family practice and welcome patients of all ages, from young children to seniors. We'll make sure your child feels comfortable and enjoys their visit.

Are you a Denplan practice?

Yes. The majority of our patients are Denplan members. Denplan is a monthly dental care plan that covers your routine examinations, hygiene visits, and provides worldwide emergency cover. Ask us for details when you call.
